Use the parents’ page as a way to keep in touch with parents, to keep them informed of what you are teaching, and to encourage them to continue reinforcing the lesson at home. Use this template as a starting point. Make it your own by telling them how the children responded to the lesson or something funny that happened. You could substitute any activity suggestions that you think would be appropriate for parents to do with their children at home.
Today we learned that the Angel Gabriel brought Good News to Mary and Joseph from Luke 1:26 – 38 and Matthew 1: 18 – 24. Help to reinforce the lesson to your child this week by talking to him or her about the lesson and helping him or her learn the memory verse.
Here are a few activity ideas…
Help your child memorize the verse.
“You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 21
Make an Advent paper chain.
Cut strips of red and green paper for the links – 25 total. On each link write a Bible verse from the Christmas story. Have your child make the chain, using a glue stick and hang the chain in the window. Starting on December 1st, each day have your child take one link off the chain and read the verse. This not only teaches the Christmas story, but helps your child visualize how long it is until Christmas.
Together, watch the video,“He’s Here”, by Sally Loyd Jones from the Jesus Story Book Bible.
Do some on-line activities with your child from the Garden of Praise.
